JOIN THE CHOIR

Members of Caius Choir include undergraduates and postgraduates studying at Caius and at other colleges. Everyone receives weekly free singing lessons during term time (worth around £800 per annum) with one of our college singing teachers: David Lowe and Kate Symonds-Joy and fees are normally paid for concerts and broadcasts. Choir members stay in College free of charge during vacations when undertaking choir activities (which include up to six feasts per year), and one or more foreign tours are provided free of charge each year. In addition, a special fund exists to help singers wishing to take part in occasional master-classes or other vocal opportunities at any time of the year.

Caius undergraduates in the choir are known as Choral Scholars having applied through the Cambridge University Choral Award scheme - an official appointment made by the College to those who have already obtained an academic offer from Caius. Postgraduates coming to study at Caius can also apply for a Choral Award but it isn’t a necessary step to joining the choir. The standard Award is £100 per annum.

Choir members studying at other Cambridge Colleges (undergraduates and postgraduates) are known as Choir Volunteers and, although they do not receive the standard Choral Award, they are entitled to three free meals in Caius Hall each week during term time.

To apply for an Organ Scholarship you enter the Cambridge University Organ Awards competition held in September, before the UCAS deadline. Potential applicants are encouraged to arrange an informal audition with Matthew Martin during the year before applying to Cambridge.

Sung by an outstanding Cambridge choir and sensitively recorded in an Oxford chapel, the result is tremendously rewarding
